What is Musculo-skeletal Podiatry?

Musculo-skeletal Podiatry is a specialist area of medicine focusing on the foot and leg in gait. It includes treatment for musculo-skeletal problems arising in the back, hips, knees, ankles and feet.

The treatments can usually be of assistance to foot, leg and back complaints that are related to running, walking or standing (where a problem exists in the body's mechanics).

These are problems that can potentially lead to long-standing or recurrent injuries.

The injuries need not become chronic if a proper examination and diagnosis is made and treatment is carried out early.

Treatment normally consists of the re-alignment of joint positions in the foot and leg using foot orthoses/insoles and muscle rehabilitation exercises.
